Old Charter

The Old Charter Brand is owned by Buffalo Trace. It is most famous for its 80 proof whisky which is full-bodied and complex. It can be enjoyed neat or in a cocktail. The brand was established in 1874 by brothers Adam and Benjamin Chapeze. Sales were subsequently contracted to Wright & Taylor. 

In 2018, Old Charter faced a class action lawsuit over false advertising. The number “8” was long displayed on the label of Old Charter whisky. However, in 2014 the whiskey was reformulated to become NAS. The “8”, however, did not disappear from the label. As of 2023, no official resolution to the lawsuit has been reported, and the “8” is still visible on the bottle according to the .
