Ardbeg Distillery
For a lot of whisky drinkers, Ardbeg is the number one distillery when it comes to huge, smoky, classic west coast single malts. Despite huge demand and a growing reputation as a collectors malt, Ardbeg is still a relatively small distillery producing just 2,100,000 litres per year. It is amazing to think that just over a decade ago the distillery only had three core range bottles and a handful of limited-edition releases. Ardbeg has had a tumultuous history. From multiple changes of ownership to becoming one of the most in-demand distilleries in the world, Ardbeg had been through it all.
Douglas Laing
Douglas Laing is one of very few whisky companies in Scotland that is still family-run; it was founded by Fred Douglas Laing in 1948 and is now under the leadership of Fred Laing and his daughter Cara. It is under this leadership that the company has moved towards bottling single malts in the UK rather than exporting elsewhere. Today, Douglas Laing has bottled whiskies from the likes of Brora, Ardbeg, and Port Ellen.
